LIT 2120: Survey of World Literature, 17th century to Modern

In this course, we will cover World Literature from the 17th to the 21st centuries. Our readings will include canonical and non-canonical works from a multicultural range of world writers. Moreover, we will also spend time covering literary theoretical approaches, as well as critical thinking and writing strategies, in order to introduce students to the type of work typically pursued in the field of literary study. Because “World Literature” is such a broad category, the texts we will read should be understood as only partially representative of the, quite literally, millions of peoples’, cultures’, countries’ books, novels, essays, poems that are out there.
